Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has told Football FanCast in an exclusive interview that he would pick Keinan Davis if it was a choice between the 23-year-old and his striker rival Wesley.

Ollie Watkins is currently Villa’s undisputed No.9, leading the goalscoring charts at Villa Park following his big-money move from Brentford in the last summer transfer window.

It leaves Davis and Wesley as the Englishman’s deputies for the time being, though the latter has only just returned after picking up a serious knee injury last season.

Fit or not, though, Hendrie has made it clear he prefers Davis over the Brazilian, believing the former’s hold-up play is superior – and of course, he scored the equaliser in the 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

Speaking exclusively to FFC about the two strikers, the ex-Villa player said:

“I like the way he [Davis] works that line and works hard and the balls that have gone into him… if I’m being honest, between him and Wesley, I’d have Keinan Davis all day. I just feel that Keinan holds up the ball a lot better and then it’s all about the players getting in around him.”

According to The Telegraph, Villa are set to enter the market for a striker this summer, so it will be interesting to see what impact that has on Davis and Wesley.
