Wayne Rooney has joked that Manchester City "should have been looked into" after their title-clinching win over QPR in 2012.

  Rooney appeared on The Overlap Fan Debate and was asked about Sergio Aguero's last-minute title-winning goal against QPR in 2012. The goal capped a remarkable comeback as City recovered from 2-1 down to win 3-2, prompting wild celebrations as the club won their first-ever Premier League title.

  THE BIGGER PICTURE

  Aguero's goal left Manchester United empty-handed, despite them beating Sunderland on the same day and it appears that the result still lingers in Rooney's mind. Sitting next to Jamie Carragher on the sofa, the former England striker claimed there should have been some sort of investigation conducted into how City managed to win the game, albeit with his tongue firmly in his cheek. City, of course, are at the centre of an investigation over 115 alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules.

• WHAT ROONEY AND CARRAGHER SAID

  Rooney was asked about Aguero's goal and replied: "Obviously, that was a tough one that. But again didn't Paddy Kenny turn the ball in, two goals, QPR knew they were safe and City get it to 2-2, then they just boot the ball back to them.

  "They had (Djibril) Cisse on the pitch, Joey Barton got sent off for acting stupid. Who else was it, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Nedum Onuoha diving about."

  Carragher joked: "So you've got over it?" Rooney replied: "That should have been looked into."

  And the ex-Liverpool defender had the last word, claiming: "It's not just 115 now it's 116. That's the headline, 'Wayne Rooney wants Manchester City looked into for the QPR game'."
